“SELF”
A VIRTUAL EXHIBITION
Since its earliest development, photography has included the self as subject. The camera was used not only to record surroundings, but to explore identity through experiment, necessity, and curiosity. Early self-portraits, made through mirrors and prolonged exposure, placed it within the foundations of the medium.
A portrait is not only descriptive, but a record of a moment before the camera. A self-portrait preserves that moment, and the person as they were in that second.
